Marin family photographer

Family photography close to home in Marin.

A family photographed outdoors with room for play

Marin is our everyday landscape: redwoods, coast, fields, hills, neighborhoods, and homes. Knowing the weather and access helps us choose a place where the family can actually settle in.

We start with children’s ages and energy, then weigh fog, wind, tides, temperature, walking, nap schedules, and the kind of movement that feels natural for your family.

How we photograph it

Clear direction at the beginning. Room for movement, personality, closeness, and the parts nobody could have planned.

A session built around real life

Useful planning, with room for what cannot be planned.

01

Use local knowledge to protect the experience.

A beautiful Marin location can still be wrong for a cold child, an incoming tide, a windy afternoon, or a long walk with grandparents. We choose the landscape by what the family can enjoy, then use weather and light to decide the exact meeting point and time.

02

Give children a place with something to do.

Paths, water, trees, sand, tall grass, or the familiar spaces around home create action without inventing prompts. The photographs can include the broad landscape while remaining about the family rather than asking everyone to face the camera through the entire session.

03

Keep one small group of organized photographs.

We make the combinations that will matter later, especially with grandparents or a new child. Then the session opens up. Good documentary family photographs and a useful portrait for the wall can come from the same afternoon.

Planning questions

The practical details before the photographs.

What happens if Marin is foggy or windy?

We plan around the specific location rather than treating Marin as one forecast. Some places are protected, some are improved by fog, and some need a different day. We set a weather decision point and keep an alternative available.

Can you help us choose a Marin location?

Yes. Children’s ages, mobility, season, privacy, scenery, driving, and the feeling you want narrow the list more usefully than choosing the most famous view.

Can we photograph at home instead?

Absolutely. Home may carry more specific meaning and makes weather, clothing changes, pets, food, and breaks easier. A short outdoor walk can be added when it belongs to the family’s routine.
