The story
We met up with the couple at their charming house in Santa Cruz. one partner, originally from Hawaii, works in oceanic preservation and the other partner, an avid adventurer, works for a local bicycle company. Both of them are surfers so naturally we grabbed some instant film, jumped on some bikes, and rode to the coast.

The complete sequence
A real story needs the parts between the portraits.
This engagement story in Santa Cruz Mountains is shown as a sequence: the people arriving, the setting taking shape, the ceremony, the reactions around it, and the way the celebration changed afterward. The photographs stay together so the day reads as more than a short highlight reel.

Why the bicycles matter
The activity gave the engagement session its pace.
Bicycles made this Santa Cruz engagement session less about producing a collection of poses and more about following two people through something they already enjoyed. Moving, stopping, balancing, and passing familiar streets created changes in distance and attention without asking for expressions on command.
Instant film added a physical pause. The small photograph could be held and reacted to while the rest of the session continued around it—a useful reminder that an engagement story can include play, place, and the process of making photographs, not only a sequence of finished portraits.
